Creating Opportunities, Inspiring Futures
I share this as portfolio work because it demonstrates my commitment to meaningful change. For six years, I served as a Troop 6000 Leader, showing up for these girls when the world often didn’t. Their circumstances didn’t allow for routine, but I made it my promise to be there, picking them up and giving them a safe two hours away from their challenging environments as they transitioned from homelessness into transitional housing.
Watching them grow and navigate the world was both inspiring and difficult. I witnessed firsthand how a lack of guidance at home exposed them early to situations beyond their cognitive and emotional readiness. I introduced them to new foods, taught them about ingredients, and took them on hikes—bringing them outdoors and giving them access to nature, which was crucial for managing their often high anxiety.
This work was tedious and exhausting at times, but also deeply rewarding. I continue to check in, celebrating milestones like first jobs and applying for further education. Our commitment to one another fosters change, both for them and for me.
