The first time I held a rope tied to a hackberry in someone’s yard, I knew it wouldn’t be my last. The man I loved had a passion for caring for trees, and before long, that passion became mine as well. We often found ourselves covered in sawdust, sweaty, and satisfied by the idea of working with our hands. We realized it was essential for us to keep going, but we needed to grow. Our homecoming search brought us to La Crosse, Wisconsin—back to the Midwest, back to the trees. Just three days after moving, my husband was already getting calls from people who needed help with their trees. And so, Art & Science Tree Care was born. Our name reflects our belief that tree care is both a craft and a science. We see beauty in a well-structured prune and purpose in educating our community on the importance of planting diversity. Our goal is to create a community with a more resilient tree canopy that will help our region thrive as our climate continues to warm.
